Rib Rumble set for Friday and Saturday

Carson City’s second annual Ribmaster Rumble at Carson Station will feature finger-lickin’ fare from four cookers and other fixins’ from various vendors.

The cookoff in the parking lot of the hotel and casino at 900 S. Carson St. runs from noon to 9 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday. It will include both cookoff judging and rib-eating contests.

“It’s going to be a great event,” said Addy Roseberry, a marketer for Carson Station. “Fun for the kids, fun for everyone.”

Sheriff Ken Furlong will join several other judges in zeroing in on the fare to determine winners.

Best ribs and best sauce will be picked, but there also is a people’s choice category.

Along with the rib-eating contest, there will be a watermelon-eating contest for kids, plus face-painting, a bounce houses and strap-safety trampoline jumping for the younger set.

Food, in addition to the racks of ribs, will include root-beer floats, lemonade, snow cones, nachos, deep-fried veggies, candy and likely opportunities from others among the many vendors on hand. Forty vendors are expected.

There is to be a stage with various forms of entertainment, plus live music outside during the rumble and later inside Carson Station itself. The outside band will be Double Shot and the inside band will be Hired Guns, said Roseberry.

There also will be a dump tank, one of those summertime staples one sees at street fairs, and Roseberry said the sheriff preferred the judging opportunity to tempting the fates in the dump tank.

Proceeds from the dump tank will go the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada, said Roseberry, and the club will raffle a Toyota truck to raise funds for the club as well.
