Bat program at state museum

Families are invited to explore what keeps bats from going bump in the night and other facts about nature’s winged mammals at a special Nevada State Museum program from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday. “Discover Bats: Night Fliers of the Skies” continues the museum’s Family Fun Saturdays series. Children will learn to use the scientific method in a friendly atmosphere while exploring the world of bats. Participants study which bats live in Nevada, how they use sound to locate food and where they live in nearby neighborhoods.A 30-minute art or science activity, best suited for children ages 6-11, also will be offered. Hosted in the museum’s natural history discovery lab at 600 N. Carson St., the event is free for museum members and children 17 and younger, and $8 for adults.
