A former Nevada college football linebacker is in Douglas County custody accused of sexual and domestic assault.

Kevin Maurice Basped, 37, is being held in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or a $50,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in East Fork Justice Court on Wednesday facing charges of coercion, domestic battery with substantial bodily harm and two counts of sexual assault.

Basped has been in custody on a warrant issued May 11 in connection with the incident.

A member of the University of Nevada, Reno, football team, in 2008, he recorded 10 sacks and three forced fumbles, tying for 21st in the nation for the number of quarterback sacks, according to the National Collegiate Athletic Association. He signed with the New York Jets as a free agent in 2010 but didn’t play.

Attorney Brian Filter argued last week that Basped has never been arrested.

“He’s not going anywhere and is going to challenge these charges,” Filter said.

The sexual assault charges carry a possible sentence of up to life in prison.

Should Basped make bail he was ordered to stay away from the home where the assault allegedly occurred.
