Obituary: Sam Roberistiano Hernandez

Sam “Cuco” Roberistiano Hernandez, 94, passed away on Sunday, August 18 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Reno, NV. He was born on May 24, 1919 in Santa Paula, CA. Sam grew up in California and later moved to Fallon, Nevada where he lived for many years until his passing. Sam joined the Army in 1941 and proudly served in WWII in the 981st Field Artillery Battalion. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1945. After the Army, he returned to Morgan Hill, CA where he worked as a laborer, a truck driver, and later while managing the Morgan Hill Hotel he also ran the local Yellow Cab Company. Sam enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, traveling and walking his dogs. He was an avid reader and a life-long learner. He had a great sense of humor and was always excited to share stories of the journeys of his life. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Mauricio and Trinidad Hernandez and his sister, Trinidad Cienega. He is survived by siblings, Francisco, Carolina, Rita, Madeline, Eva, Joseph, Rose and Jesse and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. A memorial service will be held at Smith Family Funeral Home located at 505 Rio Vista Dr., Fallon, NV on Saturday, August 31 at 11:30 am followed by a reception. Burial will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Churchill County Senior Center, 310 Court Street, Fallon, NV 89406.
