RENO — Cabela’s continues its monthly offering of free 90-minute personal and workplace protection, awareness seminars with another class at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Reno store, 8650 Boomtown Road.
The store has added classes through the end of the year. Additional classes for the remainder of the year, all on Saturdays beginning at 1 p.m., include Sept. 14, Oct. 12, Nov. 9 and Dec. 14. All classes are in the conference room, located just past the Big Horn Grill.
Developed by Jeff May and his APEX SCF company based in Carson City, the class teaches proven methods for personal protection and attack counter-measures that can be applied in any environment.

WNC schedules annual golf fundraiser
The 15th annual Western Nevada Golf Classic is scheduled for Sept. 27 at Eagle Valley West in Carson City.
The 18-hole tournament will be a four-person best-ball format with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The cost is $125 per player. Businesses can combine a sponsorship and team entry for $700. Raffle and tee prizes, awards ceremony, hole-in-one prizes, a margarita hole, on-course refreshments, poker run and team photo are available. Dick Campagni’s Capital Ford will have the choice of $10,000 in cash or money toward the purchase of a new car if somebody aces one of the two hole-in-one holes. Entries and sponsorships are being accepted until Sept. 6.

Maxwell wins flight at Empire Ranch
Roger Maxwell shot a net 60 to win Flight A at the Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Club event on July 31. Chuck Bell was second with a 63 and Jim Shabi was third with a 64.
John Sullivan and Tom Harlow tied for the top spot in Flight B with 62s. Randy Wegner and Ray Huntley tied for third wit 65s. Fred Blackburn won Flight C with a 59 followed by Paul Weller 60 and George Allison 63.
Wegner, Phil Polaske, Sullivan and John Tierney were closest to the hole winners.
Lukens group wins at Thunder Canyon
Cheryl Lukens teamed with Ellen Ewing, Shelly Brewster-Meredith and Sue Camp to win the Thunder Canyon’s Ladies Club Modified Stableford tournament on Aug. 2 with 76 points.
Barbara Plymell, LeAnne Crowell, Pam Whalen and Shirley Westfal were second with 71 and Jeanne Brennan, Mary Anderson, Jennifer Clements and JoAnn Sheerin took third with a 68. Virginia Bonar was closest to the hole.
Burt Clements and John Anderson scored 33 points to win the men’s Modified Stableford tourney. Mike Bennert and Mike McGee were second with 28, while the teams of Bret Okimura and Tyler Daykin, John Lukens and Randy Plymell and Dave Waldron and John Gaskill tied for third with 23, Daykin was closes to the hole.
Kozak, Kampstra win at Silver Oak
Bruce Kozak and James Kampstra shot 106 to win the Silver Oak Men’s Club at Somersett Country Club on July 30.
Bill Challenger and Eric Moorman, and Jim Zewan and Doug Smeltzer tied for second at 112. Zewan, Frank Turek, Dick Green and Jim Pursel were closes to the flag winners.
Allen Coons combine for CVGC scramble win
Bill Allen and Fred Coons combined for a net 96 to win Carson Valley Men’s Club scramble event. Marc Menezes and Roger Hala were second at 102.
Brick Ludington and Anthony Moore won Flight B with a 96, two shots better than David Thorne and Virgil Anderson. Augie Martinez and Paul Finan won Flight C with a 96, while John Carey and Gerry Bing were second with a 107.
McMahon, Radtke team up for Dayton win
DAYTON — Vince McMahon and Bill Radtke combined for a 62 for a narrow win in the Dayton Valley Palmer Club two-man net best-ball tournament played Aug. 3. They edged Charlie Morello and Don Robertson who fired a 63.
Third place went to Seth Allison and John Heibel with 65 and John Cowee and John Peters finished fourth with 66. Also in the money were Alex Gentry and Dennis Hillyard in fifth with 67. Randy Bird and Greg Newman tied for sixth with Don Harn and Jim Harrison with both teams shooting 68.
Hillyard used an 8-iron on the 134 yard par-3 to ace the hole. It was the first career hole-in-one.
