REPORT CARD: DAMONTE RANCH 17, CARSON 14

Offense: Carson piled up more than 300 yards again, but had a couple of hiccups inside Damonte's 30 that cost it dearly. The two-QB system seems to be working well so far. Garrett Schafer needs to make quicker decisions, however, in terms of gettng rid of the ball when the rush is too heavy. Matt Nolan made a couple of questionable decisions, too. Sometimes you take what a defense gives you, and you don't try to hit a home run with every throw or on every run. Colby Brown had a couple of good runs en route to a 68-yard effort. Carson had way too many penalties. Also, the sideline was hit with two delay penalties for not getting plays into the quarterback quick enough.

Defense: In my opinion, this was a tremendous effort. Damonte had only two good drives, and unfortunately the Mustangs converted those into 10 points. Other than that, Carson's defense dominated and held Drew Smith under 100 yards. Damonte only had seven first downs after its first scoring drive. Carson did lose Logan Krupp to shoulder injury, and that certainly hurt the unit.

Special teams: This unit had a tough night, allowing a 94-yard kick return for a score in the first half. Casey Wolfe mishit the ball and Drew Smth ran it back. Wolfe also had a 24-yard punt and missed two tough field goals, both over 40 yards.
