COMMUNITY: Tigersharks put on a good show

The Carson Tigersharks swim team hosted more than 400 swimmers from three different states at last weekend's Intermountain Classic Long Course Swim meet.

Most Tigersharks achieved best times in their events.

Some of the highlights were:

The Tigersharks' 13-and-over 200 free relay got second place. The swimmers were Vanessa Rauch, Danielle Stanka, Ashley Meyer and Sophie Holmes.

Danielle Stanka, 18, got a new Junior Olympics qualifying time on the 800 meters freestyle with a time of 10:49.31.

Rauch, 16, also got a new Junior Olympics qualifying time on the 800 meters freestyle with a time of 10:48.89.

Jay Session, 12, took second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 3:20.34. He also swam a leg on the Tigersharks' 200 medley relay team which finihed second. Christian Riley, A.J. Gutierrez and Brett Kolb were on the squad.

Kolb, 12, took second place in the 1500- meter freestyle with a time of 22:38.50. Dagen Kipling, 13, finished third in the 100- meter breastroke with a time of 1:22.97. Kaly Branco,12, was second in the 400 freestyle freestyle with a time of 5:32.91 and third in the 200 backstroke, clocking a 2:56.89.


NNYFL title games

set for Saturday

The Northern Nevada Youth Football League celebrates its third year with championship games on Saturday at Dayton High School.

In the 6-8 age group, Silver Springs will host Fernley at 9 a.m. At 11 a.m., Carson battles Fernley in the 9-11 age group. In the 12-14 age group, Carson and Fernley will square off.

The towns of Carson, Dayton, Silver Springs, Stagecoach and Fernley are represented in the spring league. There are also players from South Reno.

No admission will be charged and there will be a snack bar.


Silsby wins flight

at Silver Oak

Jim Silsby shot a net 59 to win the Silver Oak Senior Men's Club tournament on May 22. He won by five shots over Bruce Kozak.

Lew Dodgion won Flight 2 with a 63, three shots better than Dick Green. Luther Best won Flight 3 with a 60, while Buzz Wagner and Roland Owings tied for second with a 62.

• In the Sunday Masters, William Kapczynski won Flight 1 with a 66, three shots better than Jim Silsby and Lee Plemel.

Luther Best won Flight 2 with a 65, three shots better than Billy Priest.


Swann, Tierney tie

for Flight A title

Geoff Swann and John Tierney both shot 64s in Flight A of the Empire Ranch Senior Men's Club tournament on May 23.

In Flight B, Bob Warzynski won with a 67, while Lew Dodgion was second with a 68. Former Carson High principal Fred Perdomo and Rich Bremenour were tops in Flight C with 66s. Gary Mick won Flight D with a 60, five shots better than Marty Martinez.


CVGC hosts Carson

Valley Days golf

Mark June 7 on your calendar. That's the day of the annual Carson Valley Days golf tournament at Carson Valley Golf Club.

Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8:30. The cost is $90, which includes golf, tee prizes, tri-tip and chicken luncheon plus awards ceremony and raffle drawing.
