Obituary: Lawrence James Martin


A true hero died in Reno , Nevada on July 5, 2012. Lawrence James Martin was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, September 24, 1924, to parents Arthur Russell Martin and Alice Mae Kerstetter. Larry was a 26 year decorated Marine Corp veteran who served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. After retiring from the Marine Corp, he lived in Carson City for the past 40 years and retired from the Nevada National Guard. He married his wife of 43 years Anne Cowan Patrick in Carson City. Anne preceded him in death in 1993. Larry is survived by his sister, Linda Kale; son, Patrick; step-sons, he raised as his own since they were toddlers, Michael Dunn, Norman Dunn and Larry Dunn; ten grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Larry served his family like he served his country, heroically. Semper Fi 'Gunny Sgt.'. Viewing will be Thursday, July 12 from 4-6pm with services Friday, July 13, 1 pm at Walton's Chapel of the Valley, 1281 N. Roop St., Carson City and burial to follow at Sierra Memorial Gardens, N. US 395 at Westbound Lemmon Dr., Reno, NV. Donations may be made to the Nevada Humane Society in lieu of flowers.
