Nevada Arts Council announces $8,301 in grants for Nevadans

Jackpot grants totaling $8,301 were split among eight Nevada artists and two cultural organizations, according to the Nevada Arts Council.Among the Northern Nevada recipients was Xia Na (Sonia) Carlson of Gardnerville, who is receiving $790 to support creation of a collaborative and site-specific art installation at the Arrowhead Marsh in Berkeley, Calif.. The installation is part of the Conference on Ecopoetics, which occurs next February.Three others are for Megan Berner, $790 for creation of an installation at the same Berkeley conference in California; Peter Goin, $707 to supervise printing of the publication “Time and Time Again” that includes Goin photographs; and Eunkang Koh, $1,000 to prepare works for an exhibition called “Telarian” at a Columbus State University Gallery in Georgia. All three are from Reno.Southern Nevada recipients are the Las Vegas Flute Club, $1,000; Jester Hairston Music Association of Las Vegas, $900; David Sanchez Burr of Las Vegas, $887; Suzanne Hackett-Morgan of Las Vegas, $1,000; Suzanne Forestieri of Las Vegas, $800, and Eri King of Henderson, $400.The awards were for the third quarter of fiscal year 2013. The Arts Council, a division of the Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, said the deadline for fiscal year 2013 fourth quarter grant applications is next Feb. 15 for projects in the upcoming quarter between April 1 and June 30.
