A curious freak of weather. During the past week Carson has been treated to a period of Summer. A peculiar feature of the weather is in the warm streak that blows in from the west about midnight and similar visitations from the east at 5 in the morning.

Lieutenant Governor Ross steps into the boat and takes a ride. The Sacramento papers seem to be closer touch with Nevada's doings than the home people. Word comes that Governor Oddie was pretty hot when he heard the acting Lieutenant Governor made a new attorney general appointment during the governor's convention back east. A reporter probably had to fill space.

70 years ago

Sen. Pat McCarran, D-Nevada, with the voice of an alumnus after a homecoming game, tonight wound up a one-man filibuster in behalf of the silver state and pledged a renewal of the battle when the senate meets again Friday. The shaggy-haired leader of the silver bloc talked himself hoarse in a day-long harangue against legislation to permit the sale of silver for war use at 50 cents an ounce.

Carson City residents were saddened today with the announcement of the passing of Dr. James Thom, 72, a practicing physician here since 1929. "They will never have another as faithful to his patients as Dr. Thom," announced Judge Clark J. Guild.

Parents and faculty of the new Mark Twain Elementary school are busy passing the word a benefit sock hop to purchase playground equipment. Poppa Clutch and the Shifters will provide the music.

Construction on a multi-million dollar motel-restaurant project is about to start. Carson City motel owners Malkait S. Dhami and his son, Jessie Singh, plan on putting in a Holiday Inn Express, high-end restaurant and a retail development.
