ROUNDUP: Carson girls soccer wins

Carson High's girls soccer team dismantled Spanish Springs, rolling to a 5-0 shutout victory Friday night at Spanish Springs.

The CHS girls were never threatened. According to the Sparks Tribune, the Senators scored in the sixth and 11th minutes and led 2-0 at the intermission. The visiting Senators then tacked on goals in 42, 60th and 65th minutes to capture the one-sided win.

Dayton pulls out victory

Maribel Ledezma scored two goals to lead the Dayton girls soccer team past Sparks, 2-1.

Sparks was leading 1-0 at half, before the Dust Devils started playing with heart, according to coach Jared Miklich.

Devon Cates added an assist on the game-winner for Dayton.

Miklich praised the play of Ledezma and midfielder Marlayna Martinez.

Dayton, 2-7, hosts South Tahoe on Tuesday.

Carson falls at Spanish Springs

Spanish Springs boys soccer team picked up a 2-1 triumph over Sierra League-leading Carson Friday night.

According to the Sparks Tribune, Spanish Springs scored in the 28th and 60th minutes.

Carson's goal came in the 78th minute.

Carson's top singles players eliminated

Carson's Emily Collins and Blake Sly both made some noise during Friday's regional tennis action before coming up just short at a chance to play to advance to the state meet. Collins, the No. 2 Sierra League seat, won her first match against a Truckee player, 6-3, 4-6 and 7-5 before falling to the High Desert's No. 3 seed from Reno 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-2.

"Emily played great," coach Diane Baker-Roberts said. "She put everything she had into it."

Roberts said both of Collins' matches lasted more than 2:30.

Sly the No. 5 seed from the Sierra League beat the High Desert's No. 4 seed, 6-1, 4-6 and 6-3. He then fell to the No. 1 seed from the Sierra League 6-2, 6-3.

Douglas' Kari TenBroeck, the No. 1 seed from the Sierra League matches up with against a Reno player, the second seed out of the High Desert. TenBroeck won two easy matches to get to the semifinals.

VOLLEYBALL

Dayton falls to Lovelock

The Dayton volleyball team fell in four games to Lovelock at home Friday night. The Dust Devils fell 21-25, 23-25, 28-26 and 16-25.

Despite the loss the team had solid play from the entire roster. Leading Dayton was Madison Foley with 18 kills, seven digs, two aces and two blocks; Taryn Schriner with 19 digs and two aces; Ashley Vickers with five kills and 10 digs; Erin Edison with nine kills, nine blocks, three digs and an ace; Cora Jeffreys with 31 assists, two aces and a kill; and Cassandra Depew with 13 blocks and five kills.

Dayton is 7-6 in league heading into pod play which starts Tuesday against Fernley.

CROSS COUNTRY

Breithaupt 3rd; Dayton boys 7th

SPARKS - Dayton High's Katrina Breithaupt finished third to lead Dayton at Friday's Spark s Invitational.

Breithaupt covered the 5k course in 20:40, 34 seconds behind Shelby McIntyre and 70 seconds behind winner Skyler Flora of Truckee.

Kaia Galloway was 45th in 25:45. Dayton fielded an incomplete team. Damonte Ranch won the team title with 41 points, 36 ahead of South Tahoe which finished with 77.

The Dayton boys team took seventh with 180 points. South Tahoe won with 62, North Tahoe had 95, Fernley finished with 101, Damonte Ranch 103, and Lowry and Hug were next with 172.

Joe Law was the Dust Devils' top finisher in 15th in 18:17, while Aaron Elissa was 16th in 18:18. Skyler Rose was 32nd in 19:22, Jamie Woods was 55th overall in 20:28, and Nick Langstaff was 73rd in 21:07.
