LAS VEGAS (AP) - Nevada Democrats are trying to link Republican Sen. Dean Heller to a scathing ethics report that claims his Republican predecessor, John Ensign, abused his power to hide an extramarital affair.
Nevada Democratic spokesman Zach Hudson sent an email to reporters Friday with a picture of Heller standing near Ensign at a press event.
The email titled "egg on whose face" quoted a Heller interview in 2010, when he said he had not asked Ensign to resign.
Heller's spokesman declined to comment on the email.
Melanie Sloan of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington called the email "ridiculous" because Democrats also never called for Ensign to resign.
The group sought the investigation into allegations that Ensign violated ethics rules and broke laws.
The Senate Ethics Committee released its findings Thursday.
