A hidden hero

EDITOR:

There are many hidden hero's living here in Douglas County. They might be your neighbor next door, the trustworthy handyman who seems to rise to the occasion for those last minute fixes, or a master gardener whose greatest joys are growing fresh fruits and vegetables to give to others. During my time here at the Douglas County Senior Center I have met many of these wonderful individuals.

I would like to take time to recognize one of these extraordinary people.

His name is John Pekar. He does many wonderful things at the senior center ranging from calling bingo, fixing most anything that's broken at a moment's notice, helping out with our many service projects, growing the most delicious vegetables in his garden and donating them to our seniors, and being the master at barbecuing at our many picnics and events.

John has been a volunteer at the Douglas County Senior Center for many years and has given us his invaluable services. I wanted to let our community know of this unsung hero. John is a go-getter. He loves to serve, work, and give back to all the people he comes in contact with. It is my honor to know John Pekar. John, I would like to take a moment to thank you for all you have done for the staff and the seniors here at the senior center. Thank you for all the equipment that you have built and for keeping our bingo machine running in tip top shape.

Thank you for your delicious zucchini, which has become tradition in the Lee home. We now like to call all zucchini "John's zucchini," especially with my young boys. John is very modest and would not want to be in the spotlight regarding his services, but I could not let this go unappreciated. John, I just wanted to express my gratitude for all of your hard work and dedication to the senior center. You are a shining star. Your great sense of humor and caring toward others has made it a pleasure to know an individual such as yourself. Thank you for everything you do.
