Spaghetti feed at Fish Springs Fire Department

Dust off your boots because this Saturday is the 28th annual Spaghetti Feed at the Fish Springs Volunteer Fire Department.

It all starts at 5:30 p.m. and they will have the West Bound Band playing an assortment of music starting at 8 p.m. until the doors close at midnight.

Adults are $8 and children under 12 are only $4 which includes one child's raffle ticket that will win a prize.

As always they will be serving green salad, cut corn, Linda Monohan's famous green beans, and spaghetti and garlic bread. Don't forget the great spread of desserts that will be also included with your dinner ticket. If you'd like to bring a dessert to share, they would be very appreciative.

There are lots of door prizes, a silent auction and plenty of good raffle prizes. The grand prize is a mini vacation from Harrah's/Harveys Lake Tahoe including a night in their hotel, a $50 dinner voucher and two show tickets.

I have been helping out with this dinner for over 15 years and over the years the staff has perfected their sauce. It is the best I've ever had and maybe they'll give me the recipe this year.

I'll share with you my mother's famous green bean recipe and it is excellent with fresh picked beans out of your garden if you are tired of them plain.

This is how you get started:

In frying pan saute garlic cloves in extra virgin olive oil until they are half way tender.

Then add sliced onion until cooked clear. Switch over to a large sauce pan and add your green beans and chopped Italian seasoned tomatoes.

Cook until everything is nice and tender and serve. Top with grated parmesan cheese and if you are brave, some dried crushed red peppers. Yummy.

The fire station actually makes over 20 pounds of these green beans and always run out because they are so delicious.

This year there will be a separate fundraiser for a local cheerleading group. They will have snow cones and popcorn out behind the firehouse for a donation. I'll bet this will be a big hit with the kids.

Bring a sweater because the seven day forecast looks like it will be around 74 degrees during the day with brisk upper 30s that night. This will be a welcome change for the cooks in the kitchen.

Hope to see you there; I'll be serving the sauce next to my father.
