Windy Tuesday forecast

High winds are expected Tuesday as a strong low pressure system is forecast to arrive on the West Coast and then move across Northern California and Nevada on Wednesday and Thursday.

The storm will bring much cooler temperature and a chance of showers.

According to the National Weather Service, the immediate effect of the storm will be winds with gusts of up to 40 mph, with local stronger gusts along the eastern Sierra.

Blowing dust could reduce visibility for motorists traveling through the basin and range along and east of Highway 95.

The Weather Service has issued a fire weather watch for Tuesday afternoon and evening throughout the Sierra Front and the basin and range.

Expected winds of 15-20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph today, along with humidity below 15 percent will combine to create critical fire weather. The wind should pick up at about 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
