Douglas County Parks & Recreation offers activities and classes for children to seniors. Registration is required for all classes. Information at 1327 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville, or 782-9828.


Happy Notes Music Nature Notes. Two- to 5-year-olds explore music of winter animals, snow, turkey tunes and percussion sounds. Parent participation required. Class is 9:15-10 a.m. Tuesdays Nov. 2-23. Cost is $45.


Teen dance for sixth-eighth graders with DJ music is 6:30-9 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds Building. Cost of $10 includes a slice of pizza and a drink.


Tap class. Students age 9-13 learn tap dance basics, 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Nov. 9-30, at the Dance Workshop. Cost, $45.


Renaissance swordsmanship. Students 13 and older learn the basic techniques of swordsmanship, 7-8:30 p.m. Mondays at Jacks Valley Elementary School, or 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Carson Valley Middle School. Cost, $30, with a $10 discount if registering for both classes.


Ballroom dance. Learn fundamentals of fox trot, swing, waltz and Latin dances. Class is 6:30-7:30 p.m. Fridays, Nov. 5-Dec. 3 for adults, and 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Nov. 9-30 for ages 9-13, at Dance Workshop in Minden. Cost, $80 per couple.


Concealed weapon certification. Course meets and exceeds Nevada State concealed weapon certification requirements for handguns. Class is 6-9:30 p.m. Nov. 17 and Nov. 19 at the recreation annex, and 8-11 a.m. Nov. 20 at the Douglas County Shooting Range. Cost is $90 plus a $10 insurance fee. Spouses are half-price.


Fundamentals of Adobe Photoshop. Bring your laptop with Adobe Photoshop CS or Elements installed for hands-on instruction on sizing, contrast control, color options, sharpening, 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 13 at the Recreation Annex Building. Cost is $20.


Scrap booking. All day crop with instructor Jackie Gordon, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 20, at Gardnerville Elementary School. Tools available. Cost of $20 includes snack and water.


How to start a worm bin. Learn to grow vegetables and flowering plants in a chemical-free environment, 10-11:30 a.m. or 7-8:30 p.m. Nov. 3, at the Recreation Annex Building. Cost is $30.


CPR Certification. Learn CPR and first aid 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 13 at Great Basin Home Heath. Cost, $65.


Beginning tai chi. Warm-ups, exercises and repetitions, Saturdays at Gardnerville Elementary School. Cost is $5 a month for this ongoing class.


Yoga focuses on the body, mind and spirit with concentration on control, stretching and breathing. Class is 9:30-11 a.m. Mondays and Thursdays, Nov. 1-29, at the recreation annex building. Bring an exercise mat. Cost, $40.


Natural health approaches. Receive a complete personal health evaluation and learn natural ways to support and heal your body with foods, herbs, supplements and remedies. Class is 7-8 p.m. Tuesdays, Nov. 2-30, at the Recreation Annex Building. Cost, $40.


Dog obedience. Establish good conduct and curb bad habits in a dog obedience class by instructor Guy Yeaman, Wednesdays, Nov. 3-Dec. 8, at the Carson Valley Middle School parking lot. Teach your dog to obey the commands heal, sit, stand, stay and recall. Dogs must be at least 4 months old, have a choke chain and fabric or leather lead. Cost is $80.
