Red ribbon week starts Monday

Nearly 8,000 red wristbands will be distributed to Douglas County students and faculty next week in honor of national Red Ribbon Week.

On Thursday, Douglas County commissioners are scheduled to proclaim Oct. 18-30 red ribbon week.

The wristbands are provided by the Douglas County Sheriff's Advisory Council. As an added incentive to wear the wristbands seven Valley businesses are offering a free item to students who come in wearing them from Oct. 18-30.

The Partnership for Community Resources is breaking the ribbons down into parcels for each classroom.

Valley businesses participating include the AM/PM Park Place Mini-Mart, Pizza Barn, Taco Bell and Burger King in Gardnerville. In Minden Quiznos, Minden AM/PM and Arby's are participating.
