Motorcyclist killed in Ruhenstroth accident

A Stateline motorcyclist was killed when a pickup turned in front of him at Highway 395 near Palomino Lane in Ruhenstroth.

The accident was reported at 7:16 p.m., according to Trooper Chuck Allen of the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Troopers learned that a silver 2002 GMC Sonoma pickup driven by Dennis Gingrich, 59, of Gardnerville, was southbound on Highway 395 attempting to turn left onto Palomino.

The 49-year-old motorcyclist, whose name is not being released yet, was northbound approaching the intersection.

According to Allen, Gingrich turned in front of the motorcyclist. The man on the motorcycle was thrown from the bike.

He was helicoptered to Renown Medical Center in Reno and died of his injuries at 9:18 p.m.

Gingrich did not sustain any injuries in the collision and alcohol is not suspected to be a contributing factor.

The identity of the motorcyclist is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Allen said northbound traffic was detoured around the scene for approximately 90 minutes.
