A 30-year-old Minden man was killed in a two-vehicle accident in Gardnerville on Monday afternoon.

Matthew Autre was stopped in a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier on Virginia Ranch Road when he turned left onto Highway 395 into the path of a Ford F-350 pickup, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Wellington resident Natale Lommori, 59, driving the northbound pickup, was unable to avoid the Cavalier and the two vehicles collided at about 2 p.m.

Lommori's pickup traveled across the southbound travel lanes and was stopped when it struck a large cement block.

It took firefighters 20 minutes to free Autre from the wreckage of the sedan. Autre was transported to Renown Medical Center by Care Flight helicopter where he died of his injuries.

Lommori was taken to Carson Valley Medical Center, which was a short distance from the accident, where he was treated for his injuries.

Highway 395 was partially blocked for about three hours, while traffic was diverted around the accident.

Autre is the son of retired Douglas County deputy Bob Autre.
