Kids & Horses fundraiser Sept. 13

The Kids Helping Kids barbecue fundraiser for the Kids & Horses therapeutic equestrian program is 5 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Crystal Bay Club, North Lake Tahoe.

The ninth annual fundraising event includes a Western barbecue, raffle prizes, silent and live auctions and a Star Search-style competition.

Last year's Sierra Star Search helped raise $65,000 for Kids & Horses. Time and places for try-outs for the singing competition will be posted at kidsandhorses.org.

Crystal Bay Club owners Roger and Elise Norman donated the use of the Crown Room and the outside patio for the event. Brimm's A Catering Company and Austin's Restaurant will prepare dinner.

Kids & Horses, Inc. is located on the Double W Ranch, 2869 Esaw St. off Stephanie Way in Minden, and is a member of the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association.

Founded in 1999 by Sam Waldman, Kids & Horses offers horsemanship as a means of therapy to improve balance, strength, coordination and self-esteem for children and adults with physical and/or emotional disabilities.

Tickets are $30 for adults, $15 for children 12 and younger and may be purchased at Bowl Incline, Austin's Restaurant in Reno and Incline, Century 21 McGregor Realty, Ponderosa Property Maintenance, Double W Ranch or at the door.
