Holy Humor Sunday a return to an ancient practice

Special to The R-C

Holy Humor Sunday services are 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. April 11 at Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville. Information, 782-4600.

The early Christian Church celebrated the Easter tradition that joy and laughter should follow Jesus' Resurrection. Though it may seem silly by today's standards, those that came before us knew the value of a good laugh, especially when the joke was on the devil himself. Easter, that amazing experience of an empty tomb and all it represents, is a time of great joy and celebration.

So what happens the Sunday after Easter? For most congregations the answer is business as usual; a return to the every Sunday routine of music, preaching and praise that every church engages in on Sunday morning.

The Sunday after Easter at Carson Valley United Methodist Church is a time of laughter and joy. If this sounds absolutely outrageous, come and enjoy this Sunday of joy in the knowledge of grace. No pontificating sermon. No huge expectations. Just a merry time of laughing at the one defeated in the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior.
