Activities for library summer reading program

The Douglas County Public Library in Minden hosts special events for the Make a Splash summer reading program running through Aug. 7. Children explore water through stories, songs, and activities.

The Teen Advisory Board and the Dragon Slayers sponsor teen game night, 3 p.m. today, at the library, at 1625 Library Lane, Minden. Play Wii and board games or make a duct tape beach bag at this free event. Pizza and craft supplies provided for sixth- to 12th-graders.

Sign up by Monday for the water bottle rocket building event for children 6 and older, 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at James Lee Park, 3394 James Lee Park Road in Indian Hills. Bring two 2-liter and three small water bottles.

Enter the Lego contest by Monday. Create a water-themed Lego project to win prizes. For ages 2-102.

Sign up by June 26 for Fourth of July stories and crafts 3:30 p.m. June 28 at the library. For ages 3 and older; young children should be accompanied by an adult.

Upcoming events include the Bubble Lady on July 8, origami with Dennis Little on July 26, and the Make a Splash pirate party Aug. 7. Information, douglas.lib.nv.us or 782-9841.

Story time is 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays, at Lampe Park. Stories, music, crafts for children 3 years and older during the farmers market.
