Parks offer summer concerts

Minden Park

The Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department's 14th annual GE Energy Family Summer Concert Series continues 6:30 p.m. June 18 with Imagine, a Beatles Tribute in Minden Park.

Concerts are 6:30- 8:30 p.m., except for 6-8 p.m. on Aug. 27. Bring a low-backed chair or blanket. The series continues with the Trey Stone Band on July 9, Mumbo Gumbo on July 30 and Big Bad Wolf on Aug. 27.

The concerts in the series are free to the community thanks to the Town of Minden, GE Energy, Carson Valley Inn, Dr. James the Dentist, Edgewood Tahoe Golf, Walmart, Park Place AM/PM, Starbucks, Carson Valley Medical Center and Sullivan Law.

All sponsorship donations go toward costs of the concerts including promotion, talent, sound and staffing. For information about becoming a sponsor or to place an ad, contact Sheryl Christian at schristian@co.douglas.nv.us or 782-9828.


Genoa Town Park

The 2010 Genoa Summer Concert Series begins with the Billy Slais Jazz Ensemble, 5 p.m. June 20, in Genoa Community Park. Slais and Kevin Tokarz have appeared with well-known musicians around the world. Adding to the group are Brian Jenkins, drummer and Mic Valentino on guitar.

Concert series continues with the Trey Stone Band playing blues, funk and R&B on July 18, and the Old Time Music Festival on Aug. 14 with the Country Valley Jug Stompers, Quake City, Mad Cow String Band, Large Bills Accepted, and Acoustic Solution.

The Old West Trio plays Sept. 12. The group played traditional Western heritage music last summer in Genoa and at this year's Genoa Cowboy Poetry & Music Festival.

The free concert events are sponsored by the Town of Genoa Recreation and Events Committee. Bring friends, family and picnics, and enjoy an evening of music in the park.
