Ernest Gene Dunn

A celebration of life is 10 a.m. Monday at Christ Presbyterian Church in Gardnerville for Indian Hills resident Ernest Gene Dunn, 79, who died July 17, 2010, in Carson City.

Born Nov. 15, 1930, in Hookstown, Pa., to Carl and Twila Dunn, he graduated with a bachelor's of science in mechanical engineering from Ohio University. He went through Army Reserve Officer Training Corps and was commissioned a second lieutenant. He served in Army ordinance and was stationed in Korea.

He married Hazel R. Smith Aug. 9, 1953 in East Liverpool, Ohio.

After discharge he worked as a sales engineer in Process Instrumentation until retirement. He also served as a church officer at Brooklyn United Presbyterian Church in Cleveland, Ohio, and as a Cub Scout master and Indian guide leader. A job transfer brought him to Chicago. He resided in Crystal Lake, Ill., for 27 years and was an active member of the Ridgefield Crystal Lake Presbyterian Church where he served as trustee and arranged ushers for multiple services for many years. He retired at age 68 from Rosemount Analytical, and has been a Douglas County resident for the last 10 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by wife Hazel; sons Damon (Susan) Dunn, Roderick (Tara) Dunn and Wesley (Cyndi) Dunn; daughter Valerie (Ed) Krukiewicz; and three grandchildren.

Arrangements are in the care of Walton's Chapel of the Valley.
