Bea Jones dies at age 100

Service is 11 a.m. Friday for Beatrice "Bea" Fettic Jones, who died Jan. 29 at Carson Valley Residential Care Center in the Gardnerville Ranchos. She was 100 years old.

Jones was born July 21, 1909, in Minden to Eugene F. and Alma Fettic. Her family were among the first settlers of Genoa.

The Fettics were shopkeepers and her family owned the Fettic Exchange in what is now the Genoa bar.

She is the great-granddaughter of Israel and Eliza Mott, for whom Mottsville was named.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers Frank A. and Fred L. Fettic. She is survived by brother Neale Fettic of Winnemucca; nieces Bonnie Fettic of Minden, Starla (Jerry) Smith of Gardnerville, Jody (Jim) Copenhaver of Elko, and Jeanne Fettic of Winnemucca; nephew Robert (Marlene) Fettic of Orovada, Nev.; nine great-nieces and -nephews; 15 great-great-nieces and -nephews and two great-great-great-nephews.

Jones participated in the oral history project documenting life in Carson Valley from the 1850s to the 1950s. She was recognized as a 2001 honoree for the Carson Valley Historical Society's Women in History Project.

Jones graduated with the 15 members of the Douglas County High School class of 1928 and was a florist by profession.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, at Walton's Funerals and Cremations in Gardnerville. A funeral service is 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 5, at Carson Valley United Methodist Church in Gardnerville. Burial will follow at Mottsville cemetery.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of final arrangements.
