Women's Basketball: Wolf Pack knocks off La. Tech

RENO, Nev. - Tahnee Robinson tied her career-high with 25 points while Shavon Moore added 11 as the University of Nevada women's basketball team beat LA Tech 69-56 Tuesday night in front of a season-high 1,180 fans at Lawlor Events Center.


With the win Nevada improved to 11-9 overall (5-1 WAC) while LA Tech fell to 12-6 (3-3 WAC). Nevada's 13-point win marks the biggest margin of victory for the Pack over the Lady Techsters in program history passing the seven-point win Nevada posted last season.


The Pack jumped out to a quick lead and never trailed in the game. Nevada had a seven-point lead, 9-2, with just under three minutes played and pushed its lead to 13 points, 19-6, on a layup by Robinson.


A layup by Holly Jones put Nevada up by 16, 28-12, with 5:12 to play as the Pack went into the half leading by 19, 36-17.


In the second half, Nevada extended its lead to a game-high 20 points, 39-19, on a jumper by Kayla Williams with 18:08 to play. LA Tech cut the lead to 13, 44-31, with 12:46 left before Nevada pushed it back to a 16-point lead with 11:42 left in the game. LA Tech never got any closer than 10 points the rest of the way as the Pack posted the 69-56 win.


Robinson tied her career high with 25 points while Moore added 11 and Nicole Williams scored nine. Kayla Williams led the team with nine rebounds while Marissa Hammond had seven. Amanda Johnson recorded a career-high eight assists.


"This was a well-played basketball game," head coach Jane Albright said. "It was very well executed offensively and I thought our defense was great. As a team LA Tech shot 27 percent. (Shanavia) Dowdell is as good a player to ever wear a LA Tech uniform."


Shanavia Dowdell led LA Tech with 31 points, 20 assists and three blocks in 40 minutes for the Lady Techsters.


As a team the Pack shot 46.7 percent (28-of-60) from the floor while LA Tech shot 27.0 percent (17-of-63).


Nevada will travel to New Mexico State on Saturday for a game at 6:05 p.m. PT.
