The Douglas County Senior Center's 11th annual Senior Health Fair is 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today in the Shannon Ballroom at the Carson Valley Inn in Minden. The event is open to the public and admission is free.

The health fair is designed to provide seniors with an expanded awareness of health care providers and services in Carson Valley and is an opportunity to address concerns with health care professionals.

Informational booths will include vision, hearing, hospice, Alzheimer's support, residential care, area hospitals, fitness, home care, investment professionals and TRIAD.

H1N1 vaccinations will be available. Raffle prizes will be awarded throughout the day.

Douglas County deputies and volunteers will be at the fair until 12:30 p.m. to collect unused and outdated medicine to be shipped to Washoe County where it will be destroyed.

New this year at the fair are laboratory tests including a complete blood count, prostate evaluation and thyroid evaluation available through Carson Valley Medical Center.

The tests are offered for a small fee payable with cash or check at the time of the draw. No appointment or physicians orders are necessary. Patients must be 18 years and older. Insurance will not be billed for community wellness services.

Look for Annie Smutnak at the health fair to sign up for annual membership to the Young at Heart Senior Citizens Club. Membership is open to anyone age 55 or older and annual dues are $3.
