Health fair Wednesday

The Douglas County Senior Center's 11th annual Senior Health Fair is 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Shannon Ballroom at the Carson Valley Inn in Minden. The event is open to the public and admission is free.

The health fair is designed to provide seniors an expanded awareness of health care providers and services in Carson Valley and is an opportunity for individuals to address concerns with health care professionals.

Informational booths will include vision, hearing, hospice, Alzheimer's support, residential care, area hospitals, fitness, home care, investment professionals and TRIAD. Raffle prizes awarded throughout the day.

Laboratory tests including a wellness and lipid panel, complete blood count, prostate evaluation and thyroid evaluation are made available through Carson Valley Medical Center.

The wellness panel requires a 12-hour fast. No appointment or physicians orders are necessary. Tests are offered for a small fee payable with cash or check at the time of the draw.

Cost of laboratory tests offered at health fair:

Wellness panel, includes comprehensive and lipid panels, $40. Requires a 12-hour fast. Water and medications OK.

Complete blood count, $25.

Prostate evaluation, $30.

Thyroid evaluation, $35.

Patients must be 18 years and older. No physicians orders or appointments necessary. Insurance will not be billed for community wellness services. Cash or check only.
