Fun events offered at Walker Senior Center

Mono County now operates the Walker Senior Center and has many plans in the works for our local residents to enjoy. Thursday, Jan. 21, there will be a breakfast social, which they are hoping to make a monthly event. They are also planning on bingo and poker activities, as well as their regular lunches and monthly birthday parties. Sandi Rustan, the site coordinator, also has regular arts and crafts classes. For information on any of these activities or to offer suggestions for others, call Sandi at (530) 495-2323.

Flu shots available

Carolyn, our Mono County health nurse, will be at the Walker Senior Center on Friday, Jan. 22 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. for flu shots and other needs. If you still haven't received the shot and want it, now is definitely the time to get it.

New library benefit

The Friends of the Library have installed a large enclosed bulletin board outside the library, for use as a community billboard. Valley organizations are encouraged to post notices on the board, and everyone is urged to check there for upcoming community activities.

The Friends are also asking for book donations, and remind us all that since they are a registered nonprofit, all donations are deductible. The librarians have receipts to give for tax benefits.

On Feb. 5 there will be a new activity at the library. A silent auction of quality books will be set up that day. The winning bidder will be chosen at the March Friends of the Library meeting, when new books will become available for auction. Be sure to check this out.

More winter weather

As I sit here on Sunday afternoon, I am seeing blue skies with some clouds. It sure doesn't look like what has been forecast for our week, but I'll bet the experts are right. With the harsh storms that have been predicted, I just want to remind everyone to be very careful this week, either driving or walking in the elements. Please take care of yourselves, stay warm and comfortable, and enjoy some quiet time.
