Free H1N1 shot clinic on Feb. 6

A free H1N1 flu vaccination clinic is 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 6 at East Fork Fire Station 7 in the Gardnerville Ranchos.

Carson City Health and Human Services is conducting the clinic in preparation for an expected peak for the flu season in February, according to Public Information Officer Pam Graber.

This will be the second free clinic open to the public in Douglas County since the outbreak.

Douglas residents may also receive vaccinations in Carson City at the Health and Human services office, 900 E. Long St., 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 1-4:30 p.m. Thursdays.

Nearly 300,000 doses of the vaccine have been distributed in Nevada, with 2,524 of those in Douglas County. The vast majority of vaccinations were distributed in Clark and Washoe counties.

No deaths from the flu have been reported in Douglas County, which has had 169 confirmed cases and four probable cases of the flu since the outbreak started.

The number of confirmed cases has been slowing since the end of October when 2,323 cases had been confirmed by the Nevada State Public Health Laboratory. Since then fewer than 200 cases have been confirmed.
