Verandah on today's planning commission agenda

This afternoon, planning commissioners will be reviewing a request for a special use permit and variance to build a 149,630 square foot independent congregate senior living home on the property behind the Minden Medical Center.

Located at 925 Ironwood Drive in Minden, the Verandah will contain 116 units. The applicant, CTH Minden LLC, is also seeking a variance to the height of the building from 35 feet to 45 feet.

Representing the company is Kristina McCabe. She has been associated with the development of Murieta and Sierra Pines professional plazas, according to the Web site for Mountain View Capital.

Minden Town Board members approved the project at their meeting last week.

Planning commissioners meet at 1 p.m. in the old Douglas County courthouse, located at 1616 Eighth St. in Minden. Lunch for planning commissioners is 11:30 a.m. at Tahoe Ridge Winery. The public is welcome to join them.

Also on today's agenda is a clarification of the county's sign ordinance allowing electronic message displays.
