Earl Raymond McKie

A celebration of life is 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the CVIC Hall in Minden for Earl Raymond McKie, 79, who died Jan. 2, 2010, at his home in Ruhenstroth after a long battle with cancer.

Mr. McKie was born March 11, 1930, to James and Ehivoe McKie in Filer, Idaho. He married Paula, his wife of 49 years, on June 1, 1960, in Moscow, Idaho.

Mr. McKie served in the Navy from 1951-54. He received a masters degree in education from the University of Idaho in 1960, and received the Outstanding Graduate Student in Education award. He was a teacher in Boise and Las Vegas, and in Gardnerville where he taught math and science and coached basketball.

He loved family, teaching and was a member of the Carson Valley Woodturners and Woodchucks Woodworking Association. He was a member of the Worldwide Church of God for more than 30 years.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. He is survived by wife, Paula, daughters Linda Stainthorp and Susan McKie, son Douglas Thornton and wife Christine, son Kevin McKie, granddaughter Amber Stainthorp, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Earl McKie to Barton Hospice, 2092 Lake Tahoe Blvd., Suite 500, S. Lake Tahoe, CA 96150.

FitzHenry's Funeral Home of Gardnerville is in charge of arrangements.
