Basketball: Sacramento Kings arena would create 229 jobs, report says

SACRAMENTO, CA (AP) -- A new report says a new Sacramento Kings basketball arena would bring 229 permanent jobs and 1,300 temporary jobs to the area.

But it doesn't address how the $300 million arena would be financed. It also doesn't say whether the number of jobs created would be worth a large public investment.

The report, commissioned by the mayor's Sacramento First Task Force, is set to be presented Thursday and discussed at a Jan. 21 meeting. The group is considering seven arena proposals.

Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce CEO Matt Mahood noted that the area would enjoy the biggest economic impact from the boost to surrounding businesses after the venue opens.

Economists argue that the economic impact assessments don't mean much without knowing the arena's funding source.
