Basketball: Douglas JV boys roll to State Farm Tourney title

The Douglas High junior varsity boys' basketball team continued its charge toward a perfect season by winning the State Farm Holiday Classic last week.

Douglas beat Hug 55-42 to open the tournament as Trevor Shaffer had 24 points with 11 rebounds, three steals and three assists and James TenBroeck added 10 points. Connor Hughes led the team with five steals. Matt Wylie had seven rebounds and Steven Werth added three steals.

The Tigers followed with a 55-46 win over Bishop Manogue. Wylie had 18 points with 10 rebounds, and Shaffer grabbed nine rebounds. Hughes had eight points and six assists.

In the semifinals, Douglas beat Spanish Springs 67-60.

Shaffer put up 17 points to go with seven rebounds in the game, Hughes had 10 and Adrian Duenas had eight with five assists. Wylie and TenBroeck each had five rebounds.

In the tournament championship, Douglas got past McQueen 59-46. TenBroeck had 19 points to lead the Tigers. Shaffer was named the tournament's MVP and Hughes and TenBroeck each had all-tournament honors.
