Softball: WNC softball team opens home season Friday

Home never looked so good. Western Nevada College's softball team opens its home season this weekend following 18 grueling road games over the past three weeks. The Wildcats will host Snow College of Utah in doubleheaders Friday and Saturday at Edmonds Sports Complex in Carson City. Friday games begin at 1 p.m.; Saturday games are scheduled at noon.

WNC struggled last weekend against North Idaho College in Coeur d'Alene, which dominated the Wildcats, 11-0, 11-2, 9-2 and 9-0 for the weekend. NIC (16-8 overall) sits in second place in the Scenic West Athletic Conference, behind undefeated Salt Lake Community College (24-0 overall).

Just a week earlier, WNC took three of four from Colorado Northwestern Community College, 9-11, 9-5, 6-0 and 7-1. Coach Leah Wentworth said her team "showed a lot of heart" in the series. "The offense put the ball in play and our pitchers did a great job of keeping the hitters off balance."

Western Nevada sits in fifth place in the SWAC at 4-14, and hopes to make up some ground this weekend against Snow, which is seventh at 2-12.
