Carson Valley Art Association meets Feb. 26

The Carson Valley Art Association meets, 1:30-3:30 p.m. Feb. 26, at the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Office, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville. Parking is across the street at Lampe Park.

The program is the annual group critique. Bring a painting you would like comments or help with. The meeting is open to the public at no cost. Snacks and beverages served.

Carson Valley Art Association 2010 calendar

March 1-31 is the CVAA In House Show for members only in the central hall of Western Nevada Community College, Douglas campus on Bently Parkway off Buckeye Road, in Minden. Each year one of the association's support groups selects a painting from the show for their own use. Support groups have included Town of Minden, Douglas County Library, WNC Douglas Campus, and the cooperative extension. The artist receives $200. All paintings in the show are for sale. Receiving is 10-11:30 a.m. March 12. Pickup is 10-11:30 a.m. March 31.


March 26 is the regular meeting of the CVAA, 1:30 p.m. at the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Office, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville.

The chosen support group receives their painting from the In House Show. Greg Drinkwine discusses his oil paintings and how he produces classic seamless, gilded frames. He has given this demo at the Nevada Museum of Art and the Coeur d'Alene Auctions. The meeting is free and open to interested parties.


March 29 is the experimental art group, 10 a.m. to noon, at the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Office, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville. This activity follows up on the recent demo techniques or other new media. The workshop fund is used to provide materials needed for this new media.


April 23 is the regular meeting of the CVAA, 1:30 p.m. at the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Office, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville. There will be a short business meeting followed by refreshments. Margie Leslie demonstrates her scratch board techniques.

June 10-13 is CVAA's Carson Valley Days show in the CVIC Hall in downtown Minden. This is a nonjudged show, but a People's Choice ribbon is awarded. Receiving is 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 10. Show hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 11, with an artists' reception at 6-8 p.m. Snacks and beverages are served. Show hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 12 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 13. Pickup is 3-4 p.m. June. 13.


June 15 is the experimental art group, 10 a.m. to noon at the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Office, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville.


June 25 is the regular meeting of the CVAA, 1:30 p.m. at the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Office, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville. Peter Darvas from the Tahoe Art League demonstrates his watercolor and oil paintings.


June 28 is the experimental art group, 10 a.m. to noon at the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Office, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville.


July 23 is the regular meeting of the CVAA, 1:30 p.m. at the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Office, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville.


Aug. 27 is the regular meeting of the CVAA, 1:30 p.m. at the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Office, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville.


Sept. 1-30 is the CVAA Regular Show (members only) at the WNC Douglas campus in Minden. All paintings in the show are for sale. Receiving is 10-11:30 a.m. Sept. 1. Pickup is 10-11:30 a.m. Sept. 30.


Sept. 24 is the CVAA annual pot luck luncheon and white elephant gift exchange, 11 a.m. in Lampe Park.


Oct. 1-29 is the CVAA Miniature Show for members only in the central hall of WNC, Douglas on Bently Parkway. All paintings in the show are for sale. Receiving is 10-11:30 a.m. Oct. 1. Pickup is 10-11:30 a.m. Oct. 29.


Oct. 10 is the regular meeting of the CVAA, 1:30 p.m. at the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Office, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville.


Nov. 4-7 is the CVAA Scholarship Benefit Show in the CVIC Hall, Minden. This is a judged show, with ribbons and cash prizes awarded and a People's Choice ribbon. Receiving is 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 4. Show hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 5, with an artists' reception at 6-8 p.m. Snacks and beverages served. Show hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 6 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 7. Raffle is 2-3 p.m. for prizes donated by local businesses and individuals. CVAA is able to award scholarships as a result of this show. Pickup is 3-4 p.m. Nov. 7.


Nov. 19 is the regular meeting of the CVAA, 1:30 p.m. at the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Office, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville.


Dec. 4 is Kids Craft Faire in the CVIC Hall for the annual Parade of Lights in downtown Minden.
