Beware! Beware! Ye Freshmen! The Ides of March are drawing near. The girls of Miss Werner's room gave a merry surprise to their boy friends and schoolmates, by giving them a delightful Valentine party. The invitations were sent in form of tiny red hearts and when the guests assembled, they found a dainty luncheon spread for them. All report having had a dandy time, and the boys are hoping they may be surprised again.

W.C. Ball of Salt Lake City, sales representative for the Electric Research Products of New York was in Gardnerville and closed a deal with the management of the Nevada theatre for the installation of complete sound equipment for talking pictures. The equipment to be installed in the local show house will be of the same type as in the Reno theatres, which will assure the people of this section the very best. Talking pictures have taken this country by storm and leading manufacturing companies building sound equipment find it almost impossible to keep up with orders. When the sound equipment was installed in the Majestic theatre at Reno, attendance jumped beyond belief and for months the house has played to packed houses.

The 1960 Winter Olympics open today at nearby Squaw Valley, California. For more than a week ice and snow conditions have been perfect and the athletes of 31 nations have been practicing for their events. At approximately 1:30 p.m. today, a blare of trumpets, the boom of cannon and the release of more than 2,000 pigeons, symbolizing doves of peace, will be the signal for the entrance of the Olympic torch.

Douglas County's skate park should soon be on the drawing board. The county commission is expected to OK a design contract with Minden-based Lumos and Associates. The firm will be paid $30,500 to design the skate park, which will be located at Lampe Park in Gardnerville. The facility is planned for what is currently an open lawn on the south side of the park, between the tennis courts, a parking lot and the playground. Construction costs are estimated at $150,000.
