EDITOR:

Mr. Vernon Latshaw, while I respect you for voicing your opinion in the letter to the editor and also for being a World War II veteran, I believe that you may have forgotten something that has not changed in 60-plus years. That is respect toward another human being. You certainly have the right to voice your distaste for today's clothing choices of women but to single out Miss Nevada was wrong. Christina Keegan is a fine young woman and is an outstanding example and peer leader to other young women.

I have known Christina for eight years and she has always displayed the values and substance that you are referring to. I am sure that the dresses worn in the Miss America pageant many years ago were not the same as the ones worn today, but times have changed. I would also disagree with your idea that a woman's most important task is the bearing and rearing of children. How about just being a good person and trying to make a difference in this world? You certainly have the right to disapprove of women's fashion choices today, but I feel that you owe Ms. Keegan an apology. Oh by the way, they don't wear corsets anymore either.
