Power restored to some NV Energy customers

Power has been restored to about 2,000 of the 10,000 NV Energy customers who were without power in South Lake Tahoe this morning, but more repairs need to be done.

Power was restored to Kingsbury Grade at 11 a.m. today, according to NV Energy spokesman Karl Walquist.

"I don't have a customer count for Kingsbury, but among streets affected were Cougar Court, Cottonwood Drive, Cypress Way and North Benjamin Drive," Walquiest said

Customers in South Lake Tahoe's Montgomery Estates and Sierra Tract should have power, according to Karl Walquist, a spokesman for NV Energy.

A second line is being repaired and should restore power to another 3,000 customers by early afternoon, Walquist said.

The third damaged line services Upper Truckee in Meyers. It needs to be replaced and a transformer may have been damaged, Walquist said.

That repair "will probably take longer due the extent of the damage," Walquist wrote in an email.

Severe winter weather created massive power outages Wednesday morning throughout the Lake Tahoe Basin, with the biggest concentration of blackouts occurring in South Lake Tahoe.
