Nanny ad leads to solicitation for funds

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is investigating a classified ad scam that offered a nanny's position but turned out to be a solicitation for funds.

A Gardnerville woman contacted the sheriff's office after she responded to an ad for position of nanny. The respondent said she already filled the position, but referred the woman to her friend, Edward Murray, for another job.

The Gardnerville woman said she contacted Murray via e-mail about the position. A few days later she received a reply from the man who asked her for money.

The woman called the listed company and spoke with a man who denied any involvement. He said the scam involving his company's name has been going on for two years.

The Gardnerville woman did not send money and filed a fraud report with the sheriff's office.
