National sales tax fairest

EDITOR:

It is now the time for country men and women to react, professionally of course. With all the hoop-la about income tax reform I should say that now is the time to abolish income tax as we know it. The only fair taxable way to implement tax is to have a national sales tax. No exemptions for anything. IRS would only have to police the proprietors to be sure they send in the monthly quota of moneys received. Services should not have to be taxed as they usually have to buy products, equipment etc. to perform the service. People would have more money to spend for their medicines so the tax would not be a burden to them as much as it is now. Manufacturers would only be taxed on the raw materials that they purchase. This would be fair to the 47 percent of the population that pay no tax now. They will not know the difference in what they buy. Like all products we buy in town would have State sales tax and national sales tax added but we would have more money to spend anyway.

An author once wrote that Congress would not implement this because the federal government would receive so much money so quick that they probably would not be able to police themselves and spend the money on all their own pet projects.
