A Gardnerville Ranchos man who was caught with child pornography in a federal Internet sweep is expected to be sentenced today. Kyle Hewit, 21, faces up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine for attempted possession of pornography depicting children under the age of 16. Hewit's attorney said he had six images of children when the sweep turned up his Internet protocol address.

Avalanche expert and Hope Valley musher David Beck's class introduction to avalanches starts 6 p.m. tonight with the first of two evening lectures at the recreation annex building across from Lampe Park. The lectures wrap up Tuesday and then Beck takes folks out to Hope Valley 9 a.m. Saturday for hands on training on avalanche terrain and maps, shoveling and using beacons. Cost of the class is $25.

Looks like we've got one more nice day before winter returns on Tuesday. Expect today's high temperature to hit 60 degrees. There will be a little wind today, 5-15 mph gusting to 20 mph. More rain is rolling in on Tuesday and then again on Thursday night.
