Public input deadline closes in on Mt. Rose roundabout project

The deadline for submitting suggestions for the aesthetic look of the proposed roundabout project at the Highway 431/28 intersection in 2011/2012 is Wednesday, Dec. 15.

Residents can submit suggestions about landscape features, potential sculptures or signs they would like to see installed in the circular interior of the roundabout, said Incline resident Lee Weber-Koch, Tahoe Transporta-tion District outreach specialist. All ideas should be sent to suggestions@inclinegateway.org.

The project - dubbed Incline Gateway - was first discussed at a community meeting in 2007. With the support of the bistate Tahoe Transportation District, the Nevada Department of Transportation began looking into its feasibility.

Incline Gateway is being submitted to the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency for permit approval, and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for utility relocation. Conditional to the permits, groundbreaking and utility work should begin in 2011; the project's tentative completion date is late 2012.
