Oscar Reese

A funeral service is 2 p.m. today at Walton's Funerals and Cremations for 49-year Nevada resident Oscar Reese, 95, who died Dec. 1, 2010, after a short illness.

Born April 29, 1915, in Turlock, Calif., into a Norwegian immigrant family, he was the youngest of five children. He was raised in Los Angeles, where he later later tested B-17 and B-29 airplanes for Lockheed Aircraft and then ferried airplanes to Canada during World War II. During the 1950s he tested F-89 fighter planes for Northrop Aviation in Hawthorne, Calif.

In 1961 he bought a cattle ranch in Austin and - with the help of his late wife Charlotte - he was able to fix anything with just about anything. This skill enabled him to flourish as a cattle rancher. After several other ventures, he retired to the Carson Valley and began building homes in the Johnson Lane and Genoa areas.

Mr. Reese is survived by daughters Cynthia (Ted) Martin and Carolyn Frank; son Milo John Reese; two granddaughters; two grandsons and four great-grandsons. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
