Service held for couple killed in accident

A memorial service was April 24 for a Reno couple who was killed in a traffic accident in Spanish Springs on April 19.

Gus, 82, and Hazel Mae Willey, 70, were killed when their pickup was struck from behind by another vehicle on the Pyramid Highway.

The Willey's are the parents of Gardnerville resident Cindy Rogers.

Born on April 3, 1928, in Brawley, Calif., Mr. Willey was the seventh of nine children. He logged timber in California and Oregon and planted trees for landscaping projects in New Mexico, Texas and Nevada.

He enjoyed exploring desert roads, metal detecting for treasure and telling stories

Born Jan. 7, 1940, in Beaumont, Texas, Mrs. Willey was the third of six children. She and Gus were married for 51 years.

The couple are survived by their children Kathy (Keith) Venters of Reno, Cindy (Dan) Rogers of Gardnerville, Calvin (Pam) Willey of Reno, John (Cheri) Willey of Redding, Calif., and Earl (Tanya) Willey of Spanish Springs. They have 12 grandchildren, Jeremy, Kristen, Mandy, Seth, Emily, Jacob, Justin, Johnathon, Christian, Lexi, Laurie and Colton. Mr. Willey is survived by brother Gail (Laura Jane) Willey of Carson City, and sister Joy (Jack) Turner of El Dorado, Texas. Mrs. Willey is survived by her father Edgar L. Jones of Colorado; sisters Betty Howell of Newton, Texas, Joyce (Leon) Pearsall of Phoenix, Ariz., and Paula (Kurt) Darner of Colorado; brothers Edgar L Jones Jr. (Dorothy) of Los Lunas, N.M., Clifford (Terri) Jones of N.M.
