The forecast half inch of snow is sitting on the ground on the west side of the Valley anyway. Chains or snow tires are being required on Kingsbury all the way to 50 and on 50 up over Spooner Summit and a around to South Lake Tahoe. Chains or four-wheel drive are required over the mountains, including Interstate 80, Highway 50 and Highway 88.

The Genoa Cowboy Poetry and Music Festival starts this afternoon in Genoa with the opening at 3 p.m. of the Native American Cultural and Historic Center, located on Genoa Lane a block east of Mormon Station State Historic Park in the former Inn Cognito. No day pass is required today. Tonight's cowboy dinner is 5-7 p.m. and costs $20. The main show tonight starts at 7 p.m. and costs $30.

Commissioners are holding a retreat up at the Tahoe Transportation Center 1 p.m. today in Stateline on Economic Vitality Project Planning. Consultant Karen Craig will be taking them through session. Craig has sifted through all the plans done for the Valley in the last 13 years or so and culled the public comments showing the direction residents want to go.

The weather today could be worse. The forecast is for scattered snow showers and mostly cloudy skies. The high today is supposed to hit 47. Winds will be 10-15 mph with gusts as high as 20 mph are forecast. But the clouds will lift on Friday and the weekend will be pretty nice. Expect another storm to roll in next Tuesday.
