Heavenly reports 10 inches of snow

Heavenly Ski Resort reported getting 10 inches of snow during the 24 hours at 5:30 a.m. A National Weather Service spotter in Minden reported 2 inches of snow fell overnight.

Mammoth Lakes reported 11 inches of snow falling at 9,000 feet by 7:24 a.m.

Road controls are in effect around the Lake Tahoe basin and over Echo Summit and Carson Pass. Highways 50 and 28 at Lake Tahoe are requiring chains or snowtires. Highway 88 from just about the state line to Amador County requires chains or four-wheel drive. The same is true for Highway 50 from just east of Echo Summit past Kyburz.

Chains or snow tires are also required through the Pine Nuts and south to Bridgeport on Highway 395, and from Holbrook Junction east to Yerington. There's also a high wind advisory through Washoe Valley.

There's still a 30 percent chance of snow before 10 a.m. today. Then the wind will increase to 15 mph with gusts of 30 mph. The forecast high of 41 degrees today isn't going to climb much from where it is now. In Genoa the temperature is 34 degrees.
