Pony Express celebration
The Douglas County Public Library celebrates the 150th anniversary of the Pony Express with a special event Saturday.
The Nevada Division of the National Pony Express presents a lecture in the Lampe Park Pavilion at 10 a.m. A mail bag exchange demonstration follows in Herbig Park. Write a letter to be carried by a Pony Express rider during the program and visit the horses before they ride. Pick up letters immediately after the mail exchange demonstration. Younger children should be accompanied by an adult.
Volunteers needed
The Douglas County Public Library seeks volunteers at the children's desk this summer. Detail-oriented adults with experience working with children are desired.
Training provided and flexible schedules accommodated. Volunteer training is 6:30 p.m. May 17 or 4 p.m. May 18. Sign up by May 15 with Kathy Echavarria or Maria Pearson at 782-9841.
