Snowstorm causes outage

Wet, heavy snow knocked out electricity to residents along East Valley and Fish Spring roads Thursday morning.

NVEnergy Spokesman Karl Walquist said the utility received 75-100 calls when the power went out shortly after 8 a.m.

Power was restored to most of the homes by Thursday afternoon, but utility crews continued to respond to calls in Carson Valley.

"We've had several weather-related outages in Carson Valley, most due to tree branches getting into lines," he said.

Walquist said the homes without power were served by the Buckeye Substation.

The early morning snow storm left .64 inches of moisture in the form of wet slushy snow in Minden.

R-C weather watcher Stan Kapler said he had 2 inches of snow in the Douglas County seat.

A trained spotter in Carson City also reported 2 inches of snow this morning that melted down into .76 inches of moisture.

An Incline Village weather spotter reported 8 inches of snow fell overnight.

Snow left slush on area roads from Carson Valley to Reno on Thursday.

Road controls were in effect for Highway 395 south of the junction with Highway 88 and over Kingsbury Grade.

A weather related non-injury accident occurred on Highway 50 at Elks Point Road.

Kapler said Minden has received 8.81 inches of moisture and 28.6 inches of snow since Oct. 1,
