Harley Ray Seeman

A memorial service is noon today at St. Gall Catholic Church in Gardnerville for second-generation Nevada native Harley Ray Seeman, 80, who died April 12, 2010, at Carson Valley Residential Care Center. He died of natural causes.

Born Dec. 12, 1929, in Centerville to Henry and Edith Seeman, both of whom were long-time residents of Carson Valley, he grew up on the Seeman family's dairy and agricultural farm in Minden.

A 1948 graduate of Douglas County High School, Mr. Seeman continued working on the family farm before joining the Army in March 1951, leaving the Army in March 1953 with an honorable discharge.

He worked for the Nevada Department of Fish and Game for several years before joining the Douglas County Sheriff's Office in June 1967. Mr. Seeman retired in August 1981, having served as a deputy sheriff, a process server and a bailiff.

He then assisted local farmers as Carson Valley watermaster, retiring after 10 more years of dedicated public service.

In addition to being involved with the Lion's Club for many years, Mr. Seeman's main hobbies were hunting and fishing.

Mr. Seeman is survived by Barbara, his wife of 41 years; his stepson Joseph; stepdaughter Susan and granddaughter Sarah.

Light refreshments will follow the service. Interment in Garden Cemetery will follow at a later date. FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
